How To Best Match Your Outfit With Your Jewellery
Posted on March 17 2021
Do you sometimes feel like none of your jewelry matches your outfits? Or maybe you have a beautiful necklace that you’ve never worn because it somehow does not go with anything in your closet? Picking out the perfect outfit can be frustrating enough, let alone coordinating jewelry to complete the look.
If this sounds familiar to you, don’t worry, you are not alone.
Here are our top tips on how to best match your outfit with your jewelry. Give them a try next time you’re getting ready in the morning!
The Occasion
There’s a time and place for every piece. Your jewelry choice for work should hopefully not be the same as your selection for an evening at the club. Make sure to consider where you’re going, what you’ll be doing and whether the jewelry piece is appropriate for the event. While accessorizing is an excellent way to express your style, there is such a thing as the wrong type of jewelry for the occasion.
The Scale
The scale may be the most important factor to consider when picking out your jewelry. Your outfit and jewelry pieces should balance each other out rather than competing for attention. Small, simple jewelry works best with busy patterns, sequins and ruffles. A simple pair of stud earrings or a solid bracelet would love great with these outfits.
On the other hand, if you’re wearing a plain outfit with clean-cut lines, you can opt for more daring or loud jewelry to bring the look to the next level. Simple jewelry with simple outfits can also be fabulous if you’re going for a formal look.
The Skin Tone
Jewelry isn’t just about enhancing the outfit. It can also highlight and accentuate your skin tone. For example, people with cooler skin tones look great in light metals, such as white gold, platinum and silver. Warmer skin tones, however, often look best with yellow, rose gold and copper jewelry. Of course, these are not hard and fast rules. What truly matters is that you feel good when wearing your jewelry pieces.
The Colour
Gold and silver jewelry are a safe bet for most outfits, so are other metals such as white gold and platinum. However, if you’re considering more colourful pieces or gems, you’ll have to make sure they don’t clash with each other and the overall outfit. Not sure which colour goes with each other? The colour wheel is your friend.
In general, you want to keep your clothes and accessories either in the same colour family or on opposite sides of the colour wheel. For example, if you’re wearing a purple top, you can opt for a blue necklace (same colour family) or a green one (opposite the wheel). Try not to mix more than three colours in your outfit to keep everything cohesive.
